Adding a Weather Trigger widget to a creative

You can dynamically update an image in your ad based on each viewer's current weather conditions. For example, you can display an image of an umbrella to viewers in a location where it is raining, and display an image of a snow shovel to viewers where it is snowing. You can also dynamically update your ad based on the weather conditions at a specific location.

You specify up to six weather conditions, such as "sunny" or "cloudy." The widget displays the image associated with the first condition that is met. For example, you set the first weather condition to "sunny" and display a lawnmower, and set the second weather condition to "temperature above 70 degrees Fahrenheit" and display a barbecue grill. If the weather is 75 degrees and sunny, the widget displays a lawnmower, because "sunny" is the first weather condition that is met. If the weather is rainy and 50 degrees, neither condition is met and the widget displays the default image.

Before you start

To add a Weather Trigger widget to a creative

  1. Navigate to the Division, Account, and Campaign of the creative.
  2. Click the Campaign Management tab, then click the Creatives tab.
  3. Click Edit for the creative. The Mixpo Studio opens.
  4. Add the widget to your creative:
    1. Select the canvas tab that you want to add the widget to.
    2. Click the Overlays tab, then click Widget.
    3. Click Our stock library.
    4. Select the Weather Trigger widget, then click Add media. The widget is added to your creative.
  5. Select the Weather Trigger widget. In the settings area, new widget options appear.
  6. In the Overlay name field, type a name for the widget. The name is displayed in reports about the widget.
  7. To select the image that appears when there is no weather condition match, do the following:
    1. In the Default Image area, click Add image.
    2. Click Campaign media, then click Upload media to Library. Upload the image to your Media Library.
    3. Select the image, then click Add media.
Note: If you don't select a default image, and there is no weather match, the widget is not displayed.
  8. By default, each viewer sees weather for their own location. If you want to display the weather for a specific US city and state, regardless of the viewer's location, select the Customize location check box, then type the City and State.
  9. If you want to open a webpage when a viewer clicks the widget, type the address of the webpage in the Clickthrough URL field.
  10. If you want to include a tracking pixel URL that fires each time a viewer clicks the widget, type the URL in the Click tracking pixel field. To add additional URLs, click + (the plus sign), then type additional URLs.
  11. Expand each Weather Condition area, then specify the weather conditions in the order that you want the widget to check for them. Do the following:
    1. Click Add Image, then upload and select the image that you want to display for the specific type of weather.
    2. From the Type of weather drop-down list, select the weather condition. If applicable, specify the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
    3. If you specified a clickthrough URL in the general widget settings, by default, the same webpage is opened regardless of the weather condition. Alternatively, you can open a different webpage depending on the weather condition. Type the web address in the Clickthrough URL field.
    4. Repeat the steps above for each weather condition.
  12. To change the size of the widget, click and drag the sizing handles on the corners of the widget.
Note: To make sure that the live ad is optimized for mobile devices, the widget should be at least 44 × 44 pixels, so that it is big enough for viewers to tap. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, leave at least 44 pixels between the widget and the bottom of the creative, so that viewers can tap the video player controls.
  13. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, specify how you want the widget to appear in your video sequence. Do the following: Tip: You can also drag the widget on the visual timeline to adjust the timing. For steps, see Adjusting the timing of video content using the visual timeline.
    1. From the Enter and Exit drop-down lists, select the entrance and exit animation effects.
    2. In the Duration field, type the number of seconds that you want the widget to appear for.
    3. In the Start time field, type the number of seconds into the video that you want the widget to appear.
  14. Click Save.
  15. To test that the creative appears the way that you want it to, return to the Mixpo Platform and click Preview.
