Adding a Map and Directions widget to a creative

You can provide navigational information to your viewers by including a Map and Directions widget in your ad.

Map and Directions widget

If you want to provide a map or directions to different places depending on each viewer's geographic location, you can include geotargeting variables in the address field. For example, you can provide directions to the department store that is closest to each viewer. For background information and steps to use geotargeting variables, see Targeting ads based on viewer location.

Before you start

  • Create an In-Banner Video creative, an In-Stream Video creative, or a Rich Media creative. For steps, see Assembling a creative from a template or Assembling a creative from scratch.
  • If you want to display a custom map or directions button, you must create the images to display. You can display the following images for a button, depending on how the viewer is interacting with the button:
    • An image that displays until the viewer interacts with the button (the Up state).
    • An image that displays when the viewer moves their cursor over the button (the Over state).
    • An image that displays when the viewer clicks the button (the Down state).
    • An image that represents the clickable area of the button (the Hit state). This image is not visible to the viewer.
Each image should be the same size. For information about the types of images that you can upload, see Supported file formats.
  • If you want to display a call to action image when a viewer hovers their cursor over the map, you must create the image to display.

To add a Map and Directions widget to a creative

  1. Navigate to the Division, Account, and Campaign of the creative.
  2. Click the Campaign Management tab, then click the Creatives tab.
  3. Click Edit for the creative. The Mixpo Studio opens.
  4. Add the widget to your creative:
    1. Select the canvas tab that you want to add the widget to.
    2. Click the Overlays tab, then click Widget.
    3. Click Our stock library.
    4. Select the Map and Directions widget, then click Add media. The widget is added to your creative.
  5. Select the Map and Directions widget. In the settings area, new widget options appear.
  6. In the Overlay name field, type a name for the widget. The name is displayed in reports about the widget.
  7. To change the size of the widget, click and drag the sizing handles on the corners of the widget.
Note: To make sure that the live ad is optimized for mobile devices, the widget should be at least 44 × 44 pixels, so that it is big enough for viewers to tap. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, leave at least 44 pixels between the widget and the bottom of the creative, so that viewers can tap the video player controls.
  8. From the Display mode drop-down list, select how you want the map to appear:
    • To display a map that zooms in on the address, select Map.
    • To display a custom map or directions button, select Button. Upload the images that you prepared, as described in the Before you start section.
  9. From the Map service drop-down list, select the map provider that you want to use.
  10. In the Address field, type the location that you want the map to display.
  11. From the Click behavior drop-down list, select what you want to happen when a viewer clicks the widget, as follows:
    • Get map: Opens the third-party map service, displaying the address that you specify.
    • Get directions: Opens the third-party map service, displaying directions from the viewer's location to the address that you specify.
    • None: Displays a non-interactive map in your ad. The viewer cannot click to open the map in the third-party map service.
Note: If you display a non-interactive map, the click is not recorded when a viewer clicks the widget.
  12. You can display a call to action image when a viewer hovers their cursor over the map. In the Call to Action Image area, select Add image, then upload the image that you want to display. The call to action image is displayed on desktop computers.
  13. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, specify how you want the widget to appear in your video sequence. Do the following:
    1. From the Enter and Exit drop-down lists, select the entrance and exit animation effects.
    2. In the Duration field, type the number of seconds that you want the widget to appear for.
    3. In the Start time field, type the number of seconds into the video that you want the widget to appear.
Tip: You can also drag the widget on the visual timeline to adjust the timing. For steps, see Adjusting the timing of video content using the visual timeline.
  14. Click Save.
  15. To test that the creative appears the way that you want it to, return to the Mixpo Platform and click Preview.
