To attract views, consider the following best practices:
- Get viewer attention with a compelling StartFrame
- Play the ad when viewers roll their cursor over it and include rollover messaging on the StartFrame
- Add offers to the StartFrame
- Create ads that expand
The StartFrame is the content that viewers see before they interact with your ad. The more compelling your StartFrame content, the more likely viewers are to respond to your ad.
You build StartFrame content on the Interactive Display tab in Mixpo Studio, when you build an In-Banner Video creative or a Rich Media creative. You can include text, images, layered panels, interactive widgets, and so on to encourage viewers to engage with your ad.
An ad's play mode specifies how you want viewers to interact with the ad to make the ad play. Publishers often have play mode requirements for all ads that run on their sites. However, if you have control over the play mode of an In-Banner Video ad or an expanding Rich Media ad, Mixpo recommends that you do the following:
- Use the Roll Over to Expand play mode. Analysis of performance data for hundreds of ads shows that roll-over-to-play ads receive significantly more views than click-to-play ads.
- Encourage potential viewers to play the ad by displaying a roll-over prompt on the content that viewers see before the ad expands, called the ad's StartFrame.
The easiest way to include a roll-over prompt in an ad is to add the Rotating Call to Action (CTA) widget to your creative. For steps, see Adding a Rotating Call to Action (CTA) widget to a creative.
You can also incorporate custom roll-over prompts into StartFrames that you design from scratch. To do this, add a text or image overlay to your StartFrame. For steps, see Adding a text overlay to a creative or Adding an image overlay to a creative.
Everyone appreciates a good deal. If your advertiser wants to highlight a special offer, you can make it easy for viewers to learn more by mentioning the offer on your ad's StartFrame.
To include sales, discounts, and other offers on your StartFrame, you can add text, images, or interactive widgets to the Interactive Display tab in Mixpo Studio, when you build an In-Banner Video creative or a Rich Media creative.
When you create an ad that expands, not only do you have more space to include branded elements, calls to action, and other content, but you also give viewers more opportunity to interact with entertaining, engaging content.
You can create the following types of expanding ads:
- Expanding In-Banner Video ads
- Expanding Rich Media ads
When you build a creative, you add the content that displays when the ad expands on the Timeline Canvas tab in Mixpo Studio. You can include text, images, layered panels, interactive widgets, and so on to create an engaging experience.
For example, the following ad's StartFrame is displayed before viewers interact with the ad:
When a viewer moves their cursor over the ad, the ad expands to include additional content:
