Adding a Text Ticker widget to a creative

You can draw the viewer's attention to a certain area of your ad by displaying scrolling text on a Text Ticker widget. For example, you can display text from an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed.

When a viewer hovers their cursor over the widget, the scrolling pauses. The scrolling also pauses when the ad pauses, and resumes when the ad resumes.

Before you start

To add a Text Ticker widget to a creative

  1. Navigate to the Division, Account, and Campaign of the creative.
  2. Click the Campaign Management tab, then click the Creatives tab.
  3. Click Edit for the creative. The Mixpo Studio opens.
  4. Add the widget to your creative:
    1. Select the canvas tab that you want to add the widget to.
    2. Click the Overlays tab, then click Widget.
    3. Click Our stock library.
    4. Select the Text Ticker widget, then click Add media. The widget is added to your creative.
  5. Select the Text Ticker widget. In the settings area, new widget options appear.
  6. In the Overlay name field, type a name for the widget. The name is displayed in reports about the widget.
  7. To change the size of the widget, click and drag the sizing handles on the corners of the widget.
Note: To make sure that the live ad is optimized for mobile devices, the widget should be at least 44 × 44 pixels, so that it is big enough for viewers to tap. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, leave at least 44 pixels between the widget and the bottom of the creative, so that viewers can tap the video player controls.
  8. You can type text to display, or connect the Text Ticker widget with your RSS feed. Select from the following:
    • To directly provide the text that you want to display:
      1. From the Content source drop-down list, select Custom.
      2. In the Content field, type the text that you want to display. To include a link to a webpage, type the full URL including http://. For example, http://www.mixpo.com.
      3. If you want to display additional phrases, click + (the plus sign), then type additional text. The widget displays the phrases in a loop, in the order that you provide them in the studio.
    • To display content from an RSS feed:
      1. From the Content source drop-down list, select RSS feed.
      2. From the RSS Node drop-down list, select the appropriate option.
      3. Type the RSS URL.
      4. Optionally, select the Link all text to RSS link values check box.
Note: If your RSS content is not displayed when you preview the creative, your RSS feed might not allow cross domain access from mixpo.com. Contact your Client Service Manager for help.
  9. To adjust the look-and-feel of the text that is displayed, select the Font, Text color, Link color, Background color, and Opacity.
  10. To adjust the speed that the text scrolls, change the value in the Ticker speed field.
  11. By default, each phrase is separated by a black dot. To change the image that appears between phrases, click Add image. Upload and select an image from the Media Library.
  12. If you added the widget to the Timeline Canvas tab, specify how you want the widget to appear in your video sequence. Do the following:
    1. From the Enter and Exit drop-down lists, select the entrance and exit animation effects.
    2. In the Duration field, type the number of seconds that you want the widget to appear for.
    3. In the Start time field, type the number of seconds into the video that you want the widget to appear.
Tip: You can also drag the widget on the visual timeline to adjust the timing. For steps, see Adjusting the timing of video content using the visual timeline.
  13. Click Save.
  14. To test that the creative appears the way that you want it to, return to the Mixpo Platform and click Preview.

Troubleshooting RSS feeds displayed in the Text Ticker widget

To ensure that content from your RSS feed displays properly, confirm the following:

  • Make sure that your RSS feed can load. If your RSS feed can't load, the widget won't be displayed on your ad.
  • Make sure that the RSS node exists for each item that you want to display. If an RSS node doesn't exist for an item, the item won't be displayed in the ticker.
