Choosing the correct aspect ratio

Aspect ratio refers to the width-to-height proportions of content, such as a video or a creative.

Although you can change the display size of your video in the Mixpo Platform, you cannot change your video's aspect ratio. Because of this, when you build an In-Stream Video creative, you should choose a creative size that has the same aspect ratio as the third-party ad player where the ad will run. Then, you should add to your creative a video that also has the same aspect ratio. If you add a video that has a different aspect ratio from the third-party ad player, black borders display around your video in the live ad.

Depending on the live environment where you plan to run an ad, use the following examples as guidelines for choosing the appropriate aspect ratio:

  • 16:9 aspect ratio: If you intend to run the ad in an expanded ad player.
  • 4:3 aspect ratio: If you intend to run the ad as a 640 × 480 pixel banner ad.

For example, your ad will run in a third-party ad player that expands to 500 × 300 pixels, roughly a 16:9 aspect ratio. If your creative includes a video with a 6:5 aspect ratio, black borders surround the video in the expanded ad player.

If your creative includes a video with a 16:9 aspect ratio, the video fills the expanded ad player.
